Help Index Topic No. 16, Common errors and their solutions are listed below:
Error: Invalid or Missing SSN
Meaning: The TaxID (SSN or EIN) is not 9 digits, is 123456789, all the same number, or contains non-numeric numeric digits.
Solution: Double check your data and if correctly entered then solicit another W-9 from the payee, per Publication 1586, to establish "Reasonable Cause". Click the Options tab
then choose ALLOW BLANK SSN. The File can then be printed, and e-Filed to the IRS with missing TaxID numbers. The filer is still required to file a correction once the
information has been received. For information about Missing TAX ID numbers, please refer to the link provided:
TIN Matching II 1099 Express.com
Error: Invalid Char in Source #13
Meaning: A character considered invalid by the IRS was put into Excel by another program, and found by 1099 Express. The file would fail if e-Filed to the IRS.
Solution: Click the Search tab, then select "Strip Character From File". Generally these are characters less than 14 such as #13, #10, #9, etc.
If this is the case, type the
"pound sign" and the number of the error, such as #13. Strip Character From File can also remove unwanted characters such as Quotes.
